Westfield Fire Department

WFD Headquarters

Established on March 1, 1875, the Westfield Fire Department is one of the town’s oldest service institutions active today. Starting out as a volunteer department, the Fire Department evolved into a career department in 1904. The department is now made up of 36 sworn firefighters, and two civilian administrative assistants. The members are broken down as follows:

Staff

  • Chief of Department
  • Deputy Chief
  • Battalion Chief / Fire Official
  • Captain / Fire Inspector
  • 2 Administrative Assistants

Duty Tours

  • 1 Battalion Chief / Tour Commander
  • 2 Captains
  • 5 Firefighters

There are four Duty Tours that work 24-hour shifts, with 72 hours off between shifts. All Staff personnel work a standard Monday to Friday 40-hour work week.

Fire Houses

  • 405 North Ave W. (Fire Headquarters)
  • 1029 Central Ave. (Fire Station 2) 

These two stations are manned 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and house the following apparatus:

Fire Headquarters – 2 fire engines, 1 Ladder truck, and 2 support vehicles, 

Fire Station 2 – 2 fire engines, and 1 support vehicle

All sworn members of the department are NJ State Certified EMTs, and assist the Westfield Rescue Squad with emergency calls in town.
